Parkland Memorial Hospital will hire a chief diversity officer in an attempt to attract more minority candidates for top management jobs. Bob Smith, Parkland's interim chief executive officer, announced the decision Wednesday. The new position will probably be filled within 60 days and will report to the CEO, Smith said. He provided no further details. Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price has criticized Parkland repeatedly for hiring white executives to run a charity hospital that serves mainly minority patients. Price said Wednesday he did not consider the diversity position a solution to the hospital's "wholly inadequate" number of minority managers.
