State and national medical professionals have formed a group opposing Tenet Healthcare's controversial plan to contract with a larger outside company for emergency room doctors, anesthesiologists and hospitalists. Tenet's changes would replace existing contracts with independent doctors providing trauma care, pain medication for surgery and in-hospital care locally at Tenet-operated Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs and John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Indio. The new Coalition for Quality Hospital Care in Sacramento is made up of several hundred doctors and supported by large health care trade groups such as the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
