Two local hospitals battle over operating room upgrade

Call it OR Wars. Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and Sentara Leigh Hospital both are looking to ease packed surgery schedules by adding new operating rooms. More surgeons, new robotic surgery equipment and longer procedures have led to waits of as long as six weeks for some elective surgeries at both facilities. Sentara Leigh officials hope to enhance the Norfolk hospital?s $126 million makeover, spending about $700,000 to convert and equip an 11th operating room, with one devoted to its da Vinci robotic surgical system.
