She ascends to the top spot after 25 years as an administrator at the hospital, at a time when hospitals across the country are still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic and dealing with a serious shortage of healthcare workers.
Population health – broadly defined as providing the right intervention for each patient at the least costly point in the care continuum – is a necessary component to fix our failing free-for-service system. Alliance Healthcare System in Holly Springs is Mississippi’s first rural emergency hospital – the first in a trend some say indicates the further decline of healthcare access in one of the country's poorest and sickest states. Hospitals were able to apply for the new federal designation mere weeks ago, when the Mississippi Department of Health rolled out its rules for “rural emergency hospitals.” The federal government finalized the program in November.
