Detroit-based Henry Ford Cottage Hospital has begun a $10-million program to add 20 private rooms and expand its services. The expansion includes rooms in a new medical and surgical unit with modern furniture and concierge-style guest services.
Thousands of doctors have gone on strike at public hospitals across the Dominican Republic to demand higher salaries and better working conditions. More than 10,000 doctors were participating in the strike, and organizers have warned of a possible weeklong stoppage if the government does not meet their demands.

The House Health and Welfare Committee has approved a bill aimed at creating a statewide trauma system through Kentucky hospitals. Several trauma physicians who spoke at the committee meeting said expanding Kentucky's current trauma-care system will reduce deaths and disabilities from trauma injuries.

The Georgia Senate has easily passed three pieces of legislation centerned on governance at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Senators voted to create a legislative oversight committee that will periodically review operations at the hospital. They also voted to prohibit people with financial ties to Grady from serving in a governing capacity and to encourage Grady employees to seek medical treatment at the facility.
