CVS Health outpaced analysts’ expectations for fiscal second-quarter earnings and raised its forecast for the year. Customers are resuming more normal shopping patterns. Shoppers are buying more items in the front of the store and pharmacists are filling more prescriptions. It said the use of health-care benefits has returned to a more typical pattern, too.
Community Health Systems Inc. (CYH) on Wednesday reported second-quarter profit of $6 million. On a per-share basis, the Franklin, Tennessee-based company said it had net income of 4 cents. Earnings, adjusted to extinguish debt and for asset impairment costs, were 23 cents per share.
If approved by a judge next month, the plan would resolve thousands of lawsuits and set in motion the release of $4.5 billion to help cover costs from the opioid epidemic.
Shares of Encompass Health moved higher in after-market trading after the company reported Q2 results. Quarterly Results: Earnings per share were up 277.42% year over year to $1.17, which beat the estimate of $0.98. Revenue of $1,288,000,000 higher by 19.93% year over year, which beat the estimate of $1,260,000,000.
