Forty percent of the primary care providers in the Glens Falls Hospital network have left this year, and they have not been replaced. The departures have delayed appointments to the point where some of the remaining providers are now booking for November.
There have been 971 cases of measles reported in the U.S. so far this year, marking the highest number of cases in nearly three decades, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Thursday.
Dixie Regional Medical Center has been working to shift post-surgical pain management away from opioids and toward regional anesthesia, with more Intermountain Healthcare hospitals to soon follow suit. Dixie Regional instituted a program about 10 years ago to help prevent overuse of opioids and manage chronic pain, according to Dr. Reed Y. Nelson, medical director of the Acute Pain Services at the hospital.
During a recent conference about disparities in health care, physician and policy analyst Krisda Chaiyachati had compelling words for the audience. "The challenge that sits in this room with us as heavily as it sits on my heart is this: Two people, equal in every way but race or ethnic heritage, walk out of a hospital having been treated for the same exact disease. But one experiences worse quality of care or has a worse outcome," he said.
When she was born, the baby girl weighed about the same as an apple. A San Diego hospital on Wednesday revealed the birth of the girl and said she is believed to be the world’s tiniest surviving micro-preemie, who weighed just 8.6 ounces (245 grams) when she was born in December.
