Two nurses at Noyes Memorial Hospital are getting top honors – not from their supervisors, but instead from the patients that they care for. “What it is, is a way that we recognize our outstanding nurses for the work that they do,” said Lynn White, the hospital’s director of public relations. It is all part of the DAISY Award For Extraordinary Nurses. “Patients nominate nurses,” said White.
When Lori Mahler first started Nurse Crushing COVID, it consisted of only three retired nurses ready to assist frontline workers. We support the true heroes of the pandemic who are front-line doctors, nurses and respiratory therapists. I felt that I could do the minimum. However, increased interest in Arkansas-based groups led to a team of 60 people. Mahler admits that it is “much bigger than I expected.”
