A government oversight program that protects frail and elderly New Yorkers failed to conduct visits at about 59% of nursing homes and adult care facilities during a three-month period this year. The lack of visits by the state Long Term Care Ombudsman Program came to light in a new report by elder advocate AARP New York. Some of the worst-performing regions included parts of the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Hudson Valley. The visit data spanned from January through March, the most recent available.

According to the report, the global home healthcare market was valued at US$ 238.1 Bn in 2020 and is projected to expand at a CAGR of 10.5% from 2021 to 2028. The home healthcare market involves wide range of medical devices and services that help patients to treat or diagnose various chronic diseases. These devices and services play an important role in providing cost-effective healthcare to patients.
A meeting Friday morning about the WA Cares' Fund highlighted hope that the state's long-term-care program is now projected to remain solvent with its current payroll tax rate, given the latest actuarial analysis. A study done two years ago — before taxpayers knew about WA Cares and before widespread concern about how the program will add a new payroll tax — showed insolvency. Washington state officials were concerned about the fund being able to pay its way.
A bill introduced by a local legislator to improve staffing at long-term care facilities is now law. State Representative Tim Bonner (R-Butler, Mercer) says House Bill 2293 requires Contract Health Care Service Agencies that provide temporary nursing workers in nursing homes, assisted living residences, and personal care homes to register with the PA Department of Health.
