This year, HealthLeaders provided extensive coverage of clinician wellness, including stories on physician burnout and effective strategies for improving resident well-being.

Clinician wellness is a primary concern for the CMOs of health systems, hospitals, and medical groups.

In particular, physician burnout remains at alarmingly high levels across the country. In a 2021 survey of physicians conducted by the American Medical Association, Mayo Clinic, Stanford University School of Medicine, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine, 62.8% of physicians reported experiencing burnout symptoms. The physician burnout rate has fallen since the pandemic but remains at a high level. In 2024, 43.2% of physicians reported experiencing at least one symptom of burnout, according to the AMA.
