North Carolina reports 44,119 COVID-19 cases, 1,109 deaths with one of the top percent positive test rates in U.S.

Here are the latest updates about COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, in North Carolina. North Carolina health officials said the total number of COVID-19 cases throughout the state is 44,119 after 1,443 more were reported. Five more people have died from the virus, bringing the total to 1,109 deaths statewide.
