A medical clinic owner and two Miami-Dade school bus drivers have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to bill the district?s health insurance for phony medical procedures in a scheme that cost taxpayers at least $1 million. More people will likely be arrested soon, law enforcement and schools authorities said Thursday at a press conference. ?To do this is taking money directly out of our kids? pockets, and the pockets of our teachers,? Miami-Dade Schools Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo said. Arrested: Yasiel Reyes, 21, the owner of Operator Health Clinic and Leon Global Center, which billed the school district for care of about 100 schools employees, most of them school bus drivers. He is charged with seven counts of patient brokering, each count punishable by up to five years in prison. According to police, the clinic would pay $400 dollars in kickback money to a client per visit, even though the patient had no health problems. The clinic would then turn around and bill the schools insurance for procedures that were never done.
