Study: Friends, surgery mix

People who have more friends and family who care about them do better in surgery, a new study by the American College of Surgeons says. Patients have less pain and anxiety before having surgery than their more isolated peers, researchers say. The team conducted the study through the Veterans Administration Ann Arbor Healthcare System and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The study followed 605 patients who had major thoracic surgery.
