FL Gov. Scott releases hold on $35M for Jackson

Shortly after meeting with Jackson's new CEO, Gov. Rick Scott announced he was withdrawing his objections to the release of $35 million in state funding that Miami-Dade's public hospitals desperately need to get through the summer. "It was a great meeting," said Carlos Migoya, who flew to Tallahassee to meet Scott and legislative leaders less than 48 hours after his selection as the new leader of the Jackson Health System. "He certainly was very helpful, even mentioning leaders in the healthcare business who could give me advice." The welcome news for Jackson came the same day that Joe Martinez, chairman of the Miami-Dade County Commission, started a major push to replace Jackson's 17-member governing body, the Public Health Trust, with a new seven-member group.
