CMS stated that there were more than 170,000 new consumers on the HealthCare.gov platform during the first week of the open enrollment period.

Nearly 820,000 people selected plans on HealthCare.gov during the first week of the 2020 open enrollment period, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Thursday afternoon.

According to the Healthcare.gov Platform Snapshot, there were more than 170,000 new consumers during the first week of the open enrollment period and nearly 650,000 consumers renewing coverage.

HealthCare.gov saw more than 3.1 million users, there were more than 1.4 million consumers on applications submitted, and call center volume exceeded 500,000.

Last month, CMS released data that indicated there were more than 4 million new enrollments between February and June for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

By segment, Medicaid enrollment increased 6.2%, totaling almost 4 million new recipients, while CHIP enrollment increased by just over 23,000, representing nearly 0.5% growth, which the agency largely attributed to the public health emergency (PHE) for COVID-19 issued in March.
