Opinion: Ethical AI in Healthcare: Drawing the line between innovation and trust

AI is brilliant at spotting patterns. But deciding what happens next should always belong to a human being. For me, the boundary is simple: AI suggests, humans choose. Medicine is much more than just data. It's science, yes, but it's also human lives filled with fear, hope, history. It alters people and reverberates through generations. Patients need to know that a real person guides the decisions that impact their lives. Someone who will sit with them, look them in the eye and say, "This is what I think, and here's why." Once AI starts making the call, trust starts to erode. Patients feel like they’ve become another data point in a system. Clinicians begin second-guessing their own judgment. And when something goes wrong, no one blames the algorithm. They blame the physician who let it happen.
