The Springfield, Pennsylvania-based system's CEO Patrick Gavin resigned suddenly on Monday, months after CFO Sean Fitzpatrick announced he was stepping down after being brought on in February.

A year of turnover at the C-suite level continues for Crozer-Keystone Health System, as CEO Patrick Gavin resigned suddenly on Monday, just after more than two years at the system.

Gavin, who became CEO of the Springfield, Pennsylvania-based system in July 2016, will be replaced by COO Sharif Omar. Omar previously served as CEO of Pottstown Memorial Medical Center in Pennsylvania and Northwest Health System in Arkansas.

Gavin, a longtime healthcare executive, first joined Crozer-Keystone as president of the system in 2010 before being promoted to COO in 2012.

This marks the second executive defection for Crozer-Keystone in 2018, as CFO Sean Fitzpatrick left the organization after less than six months.

Regarding Fitzpatrick's departure, a representative for Crozer-Keystone confirmed to HealthLeaders in August that he had left the system for personal reasons.

Rich Leonowitz, a spoksperson for Crozer-Keystone, provided HealthLeaders with a press statement on Wednesday:

"Patrick Gavin is resigning his position as chief executive officer of Crozer-Keystone Health System, having served in the role since July 2016.  Sharif Omar has accepted the position as CEO. Omar joined the organization earlier this year as chief operations officer.

Prior to joining Crozer-Keystone, Omar was CEO at Northwest Health System, Ark. He also held CEO and COO positions at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, and senior executive positions with Louisiana-based Medical Partners International, Southwest Medical Center and Tulane University Hospital. Omar received his master's degree in health administration from Tulane University in New Orleans and his bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport."
