New York City to beef up program providing health care for all residents

Mayor Bill de Blasio is spending at least $100 million to direct people without health insurance — including undocumented immigrants — to city-subsidized medical services that were already available but underused. In announcing the new effort Tuesday, on national TV and then at a press conference inside a Bronx hospital, de Blasio touted it as “universal health care,” though it is far more limited in scope than what is commonly understood to be universal.
