One of two level one trauma centers in metro Atlanta is closing, hospital officials confirmed on Wednesday night. Wellstar Health System announced their intention to close Atlanta Medical Center in Downtown Atlanta on November 1. In the meantime, they say they will gradually “wind down” services offered at the hospital. They say that in the past six years of operating the hospital, they have invested more than $350 million to support losses. Officials add that in just the last 12 months, the hospital has lost more than $107 million.
Nearly one year after first earning approval to a build a new hospital in North Liberty, University of Iowa Health Care won crucial approval Aug. 30 to raise the budget by 33.5% during a State Health Facilities Council meeting by a 3-1 vote. A $230 million budget was approved in 2021.
Huntsville Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce the addition of executive leaders Mary Bevier, Chief Financial Officer, and Jose Guerra, RN, Chief Nursing Officer. Increasing risk requires greater investment in hardware, software and internal controls in order to prevent and address cyber breaches. However, not-for-profit hospitals are reporting thinner margins amid ongoing cost pressures, necessitating cost containment and revenue-raising measures, and cyber security spending may not be prioritized.
