Nearly one in three RNs in New Jersey have left hospital bedside care over the past three years because of the crushing workload and intolerable stress, according to a survey of 500 nurses commissioned by the largest union representing healthcare workers in the state.
A piece of Minnesota legislation called Keeping Nurses at the Bedside Act, would create committees made up of healthcare workers and management to set safe staffing levels on a hospital-by-hospital, unit-by-unit basis, including a maximum limit on the number of patients that any one nurse should safely care for. Disputes would go to arbitration.
The Arizona State Board of Nursing has a special meeting set for next Thursday for a potential final decision on the fate of Aspen University's nursing program. It could result in the program being immediately shut down, which would impact hundreds of students.
