With a week left until a nursing strike, the University of Vermont Medical Center has scheduled a bargaining session on Friday with its nurses' union. The time, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., was chosen after discussions involving both sides, according to Hospital spokesman Michael Carrese.
To help address access to health care for rural and underserved areas, registered nurses can take on expanded roles in primary care delivery. "Nurses can practice to the full scope of the RN license and expand their scope of influence within the community-based primary care team," said South Dakota State University Associate Nursing Professor Heidi Mennenga.
The Vermont Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals is gearing up for a possible strike at the UVM Medical Center. A spokeswoman tells WCAX-TV that nurses will deliver a strike notice on Monday.
