Loretto has reached an agreement with United Healthcare Workers East to increase pay by 4% each year for the next three years. Union members at all locations voted in favor of a collective bargaining agreement that also retains existing health insurance, pension, and education benefits. Workers will also see increases in their uniform allowances, longevity bonuses, and shift differentials. “With everything going on we really needed good news,” said Kristina Dean, Certified Nurse Assistant at The Commons on St. Anthony.

Some people staying at assisted living or nursing home facilities in Northeast Wisconsin are experiencing this first-hand. Bob Blazei said his father, Harold, was staying at Alpha Senior Concepts, an assisted living facility in Howard, beginning May of last year. After a few months, Bob noticed his father was acting differently and received a call from him late one night saying he was in pain.

Caregivers who work for MaineHealth Care at Home (MHCAH) are calling for the removal of management executives. This week, the majority of employees at the agency, more than 60 of them, signed a petition of no confidence in their leaders. Nurses and clinicians expressed their frustrations during a rally in Portland on Friday outside the MHCAH office off Washington Avenue. The caregivers are represented by the Maine State Nurses Association, a branch of National Nurses United.

Altoona native Robert Brandt held the winning number — 791 — for Home Nursing Agency Foundation’s Mercedes Moment fundraiser held on May 25. The winner was announced as part of Mercedes Moment Night at the Altoona Curve after the first Pick 3 Pennsylvania lottery number at 7 p.m. As the winner, Brandt was offered the choice of the Mercedes GLA 250 or $30,000 cash prize.
