Healthcare district to give $1.25 million subsidy to Florida hospital

Glades General Hospital, the only public hospital in Palm Beach County, FL, will receive a $1.25 million infusion of taxpayer money to help its ailing finances. Hospital representatives cited falling admissions, Medicare paybacks and the temporary shutdown of its dialysis program as reasons for the financial woes. In November 2007, the county's Health Care District bailed the hospital out of a $1.4 million summer shortfall with $2 million. The additional money will forestall shortages, said the hospital's chief executive officer.
